No, Cuba does not receive a recommendation. All the tales of Caribbean ease and Cuban charm come from times long past. Cuba stands as a monument to corruption and mismanagement. Hunger and poverty prevail on the island, poisoning not only the bodies but also the souls of its people. Cuba has its beautiful sides, but they cannot deceive us about all the injustices. When I think of Cuba, I envision Tony and Grisel sitting on their rocking chairs, growing sadder by the day. I also see Virgen, laughing like a diva, tossing her head back, while behind her, the old photos of her son fade further away. I see the old woman from Havana, not begging for money or food, but for water. With all these images in mind, I sincerely hope from the bottom of my heart that the Cuban people will have a better future someday.
