To the Wildcat Village in Hütscheroda

The weather in August and September was not the very best. It was often cloudy and rainy… but for my birthday we wanted to make a little trip. In August we went with Nathalie’s parents to the treetop path in Thuringia and got an advertising flyer for further sights in Thuringia… and one sight caught our attention: the wildcat village in Hütscheroda! On Saturday we decided to drive to the forest cat village. But we had to realize that it was not so easy to get there without a car. First you have to take the train to Eisenach and from there there is a bus to Hütscheroda and back…

Hike on the Horseshoe in Jena

From the meeting point in Jena Zwätzen we first had to go to Kunitz. Here we crossed the Kunitz house bridge and got to know the village a little bit. Soon we were on the signposted hiking trail and we headed south up the mountain towards Jenzig. Here we got lost 1 or 2 times. So we came partly on quite steep paths, which sometimes even ended in dead ends. But with the time the paths became more and more passable and we even met a paraglider pilot at his jump. Arrived at the summit there were several forest taverns where we had our lunch. Nathalie and I made onigiri…

Album Review: “Hell” by Die Ärzte

Those who know me know that I am a big fan of Die Ärzte. Normally I listen to J-Pop almost exclusively in the form of various Anime Openings and Endings, but when it comes to German language music, I have only listened to all albums of this band and a large part of my playlist consists of songs from Die Ärzte. Now that more than 8 years have passed since the last album, I, like many other fans, was over the moon when the doctors announced a new album and a tour after all. I immediately got myself tickets… but unfortunately all concerts in 2020 were cancelled due to Corona…

    Gera Zoo

Actually we wanted to go to the wildcat village in Hütscheroda on our one year wedding day… but we soon found out that the train connections to Eisenach and the enclosure are quite complicated and we would not have been able to spend enough time there on the planned day. So we quickly thought about alternatives. Zoos are always a good idea, but we have been to Leipzig and Erfurt the last few years… so we decided for a completely different zoo, which reminds more of an animal enclosure: The zoo Gera! We took the train to Gera-Süd and from there it was not far to the zoo. Nevertheless we…

Poland (2020): Short vacation on the Baltic Sea!

Planning and departure Due to the Corona, there wasn’t much to do with vacation in 2020. Fortunately, we had traveled to South Africa in February and had a big vacation this year, but nothing came of it with Egypt / North Sudan in July. So we thought: Why not just go for a little tent trip to the Baltic Sea? Not to the German Baltic Sea, but to the Polish part, because it is cheaper there. Only a few months beforehand there was also a huge 4-person tent on offer at the Aldi (which we also got hold of, although there was only 1 piece per discounter), which gave us…

    Book Review: “Herz aus Stern”

Since I have written small game and other product reviews in forums or on the pages of various online stores, I now felt like writing a detailed review for a book. It is the book “Herz aus Stern” by Nino Kerl, which was published on 14.02.2020. Just because I don’t see it as a perfect work nor as a complete flop, but quite controversial in its qualities, I want to report about it. I myself am a big fan of many animes, mangas and various RPGs and other game series. Like the author, I am a big fan of e.g. the Final Fantasy games or I also read many mangas…

    The Cat Vacation in Greiz

During our trips to Peru, Japan or South Africa, our cats Iva and Yuri also had a kind of vacation … they were always with my mother in Greiz during this time and thus also made a small change of location. Iva was always the biggest problem child in this situation. While Yuri is calm when you take him anywhere (be it in a basket or a backpack), Iva is always quite panicked. She always struggles to get into the transport medium and during the transport, she sets new records how often she can empty herself into the basket or backpack. We also tried to give her a sedative, but…

    Our little Whitsun-Hike to Belvedere

On June 1st we wanted to take a little hike thanks to the nice weather. Therefore, we have again prepared Bentos with onigiris (rice balls filled with chicken, wasabi and cheese), red bell peppers, cucumbers, and octopus sausages. The hardest part of the way was to climb up to Belvedere Palace at the beginning. We left shortly before 11 o’clock and arrived exactly at 12. Here, we looked for a nice bench in the park behind the castle and ate our Bentos. After lunch, we went back along a dirt road leading towards “Taubacher Mühle”. Shortly before arriving at the village we turned left towards the bike path that we…

    Bicycle tour: Feininger-Radweg

On May 21st (also Father’s Day), we decided to go on a bike tour. This day was particularly worth going outside because both the days before and the weather forecast afterward showed that it would otherwise only be raining or cloudy. We chose the Feininger cycle path, which is described below. We knew the beginning of the route to Mellingen, as Nathalie uses to go running there quite often and sometimes accompanied her on my bike. The way behind Oettern was a little more confusing. Here, we slightly lost our way. When we finally found our way back to the Feininger bike path behind Buchfart, the most difficult part of…

    Towel Day Challenge

Of course, you don’t want to talk about work … but since this is a “nerdy” event and even Iva is involved, I would like to talk about it briefly. Every year on May 25th the Towel Day is organized, which is about pointing out how important it is to always have a towel with you. The network from my work used this opportunity to continue to refer to the topic of “pre-registration”, which could have prevented problems with the answer “42”. For this purpose, a challenge was announced on Twitter, in which I then took part with a photo of Iva (because I did not want to show myself…
